Cut A Rug

June 3, 2007 at 7:26 am | In light bulb moments | 25 Comments

I in the mooddanced last night. I whirled and twirled and cut a rug. So what if I was on the clock working our annual dinner/dance fundraiser. So what if I had no “date” to speak of. So what if my feet were killing me in my pink polka dot heels.

I forgot how dancing makes me feel. It’s hard for me to repress a smile when I’m out on the floor. It doesn’t matter that some of the steps I’d learn back in college escaped me and that I resorted to making up some fancy footwork. All that matters is that for a brief moment I was able to remember a me I had forgotten. And I felt light. And I felt downright pretty.

An overwhelming feeling of Possibility coursed through me in time to the rhythm of the big band.  I felt alive and it felt fantastic.

“Somewhere beyond the sea/somewhere waiting for me/my lover stands on golden sands/and watches the ships that go sailin. . ./I know beyond a doubt/my heart will lead me there soon/We’ll meet (I know we’ll meet) beyond the shore/We’ll kiss just as before/Happy we’ll be beyond the sea/and never again I’ll go sailin’”- Beyond the Sea, Bobby Darin

  1. That’s a great song…

Now if only I could dance.

  2. Sweet! I love how dancing can take you out of your head for a while. I’m so glad you had fun…

Also, I’m mighty envious of pink polka-dot heels. I love shoes….

  3. I love pretty dresses, pretty shoes, and DANCING. There is nothing better (we’re not talking sex with a WHH here). Except maybe, lip-synching with a hairbrush with your sisters. Yeah, that’s good too. Music = singing, dancing = happy

  4. I neglected to say… you’re so very pretty in the picture you posted. Very pretty!

  5. There was a time in my life when things weren’t so good and I would put on an Abba CD and dance around the house. Like you, it made me feel alive and like I could manage the future. Of course, in high heels I probably would have just fallen and broken a hip!

  6. What a beauty!

    I want to go dancing…

  7. I love to dance even though I’ve got two left feet!

    Love the pics!!

  8. What a coincidence! I’m wearing my pink polka dot heels RIGHT NOW. (And you’re right, they do make me feel pretty.)

  9. I think you felt pretty because you’re hot. :)

  10. Dancing sounds fun! You look cute in your pics. Glad you are feeling good.

  11. As long as you don’t look like ELAINE from SEINFELD out on the dance floor, all is good.

  12. How wonderful! I can’t dance well AT ALL but it doesn’t stop me from trying!

    Also- LOVE that song. :)

  13. Good to hear, Cupcake!

Sometimes if we make our body do stuff that feels happy, it makes us feel happy inside too! =)

and um… you’re totally smokin’ in that dress… RAWR! ;-)

  14. I’m glad one of us likes to dance :)

Btw, the latest pics of Finn are ADORABLE!!!

  15. i’m glad you are beginning to like being in your own skin again:)

  16. Looks like you had so much fun! But… where are the pictures of the shoes?! :-p

  17. I’m too inhibited to dance. Even in my own apartment. Alone.

    Sad, isn’t it?

  18. I’d love to see those shoes. And I LOVE to dance too.

  19. You are one step ahead of me, at least you wern’t sweaty! It’s funny how dancing can make you forget. Glad you had a fun and fancy night!!

  20. How FUN!

  21. I don’t like to dance in front of grown ups very much, but dancing with kids always makes me feel good. Dancing seems to be some super drug for whatever ails a person.

  22. Glad you had a good time.

  23. You are downright pretty pookie! I love dancing, I’m glad you had fun but I’m sorry your feet hurt even though your shoes sound over the top cute!

  24. I bet you were a sight to behold. :) Glad you remembered a positive part of yourself.

  25. Good for you!!!! You go and dance your heart out again tonight, and do so until all your sorrow is danced away!
