Sisterly Negotiation
July 26, 2007 at 7:47 am | In conversations, family, travel | 15 CommentsMy sis, nephew and I are going to California for my Mom’s birthday and a family reunion next week. The following is not a fictional account . .
Doke: We need to get an early flight.
Me: How early is early?
Doke: Before 8am.
Me: Both ways?!
Doke: At least one way. It’s easier with Finn.
Me: Oh great, play the kid card.
Doke: That way he will sleep, not scream.
Me: But I might have the opposite reaction.
(Later via text, after she had booked our flights.)
Doke: All that is left are flights leaving at 6:30am. Is that ok?
Me: No it is not ok. But what other choice do we have?
Doke: Ok, our flights leave around 6:30am each way.
Me: I hate you.
It’s not going to be pretty, people.
“I miss the way you sing low/So I can’t hear your voice over/The radio in my car/But you knew every word they sang/You know just the right thing to say when the/Distance rips us farther and farther and farther away/I’ll see you soon. . .”-California, Copeland

I am much the opposite. Flying early allows you to avoid lines, have a quiet airport (usually) and above all else, GET THERE SOONER!
It will all be worth the early when you get there- have fun!!

HA! 6:30 is actually NOT very early Siz… oh, but then there is that “be at the airport two hours in advance”… *snicker*. Better a cranky Sizzle than a cranky Finn…

Oh I hate the early morning flights. A 6:30 means you have to get to the airport at 5:30 at the latest. Should just sleep at the airport. Ugh.

As a mother I can completley relate to scheduling flights around my children’s best times. But when you factor in how early you have to get there and how early you have to get up- 6:30 is rough. Good luck! Hope he’s quiet. :)

Well at least you are still talking to your sister… My sister thinks that I and the rest of us don’t show to advantage compared to her inlaws. So we were cut off.

Uh, 6:30 AM is when I’m going to bed. My heart goes out to you.

I love early flights and drives, before the world is awake

I’m with you sizzle. Whenever we fly for work its always at some ungodly time like 5 or 6am.
You have my sympathies :)

I’ve taken the 6:30am flight too many times because it is always cheap & available at the last minute. And yes, that generally means leaving for the airport at 4am.
Luckily I can sleep in the oddest places, including moving vehicles, so I barely remember anything until I get to my destination!

Good thing Seattle has a coffee place on every corner :) They may not be open so early though. Could suck to be your sister. :)
