Keep giving good love & spreading it around.
August 28, 2007 at 6:48 am | In fun & frolicking, hip to be square, my neurosis | 28 CommentsLast year around this time I attempted to go to a show by myself. I never made it because my spazmatronicness got the better of me. But apparently I’ve done some serious growing (of balls!) because I totally redeemed myself last night.
I put on my red shoes and some lipstick and
went, alone, to see Sara Bareilles. On a Monday night. And I had a Stella (cheers Alissa). And I didn’t flip the fuck out about being there by myself. It rocked! She is on the cusp of stardom. Soon her shows will be huge and the crowds will annoy me (much like what happened with my beloved Tori Amos). Though, there was this one drunk chick, her friend and her annoying boy toy who were gyrating on each other to songs with a tempo that didn’t even warrant such gusto. She was irritating everyone around her. The looks on their faces all matched. They said: I hate that bitch. I felt the worst for the short guy stuck right behind them. He wasn’t having such a good time.
Of course the crowd went wild for Sara’s hit single, “Love Song.” It’s a great tune but I’m partial to the lesser known songs like “One Sweet Love” and “King Restless.” From the first moment I heard her open for an opener in L.A. (she wasn’t even signed to a record label back then) I knew. . . sometimes some singers write songs like they have been hanging out in your head. Right now, for me, Sara B. is that singer. During the show, she took her song “Love on the Rocks” blending it with “Benny & The Jets” and a bit of Bob Marleyesqueness mixed in at the end. Wicked cool. If you get the chance, check her out now. She’s on tour.
If you have the time, watch this video to get a taste or if you want to skip it, go past the jump and read the lyrics to my current anthem.
