Like a Hawk

I worked today, operating on 4 hours of sleep and pure adrenaline. It was a gorgeous day in Seattle and the first Seahawks game of the season. The fans were out en masse and my god did they have enthusiasm. It was a sea of blue everywhere you looked.

At one point I was running from one end of the stadium to the other, literally, carting a box of programs from one location to another that was running out. The texts were coming fast and furious, “Cart 5 is out of programs!” and “Cart 23 has 2.5 boxes left.” and “We’re selling out, can you get us more?” I really need to get more runners because even though I’m fairly adept at running through the crowd (even if I did end up looking sunburnt/like a tomato from overheating), it’d go a hell of a lot faster if I had other people to work different parts of a very large, very crowded stadium.

I even got mad props from the “essentially/as well” man himself- the head of the program who makes it a point to not dole out compliments easily. My bosses were all there and had positive feedback on my organizational skills. My friend Putzy even went so far as to remark that I am “hawt” when I am standing up on that chair rallying the troops. Aw, shucks.

In 4 hours, 100 volunteers hawking programs managed to raise over $30,000 for the non-profit I work for. That’s a pretty fantastic day. And I don’t even like football! (I swear if they keep making me go to these games I will end up fan. Aack!)

I am exhausted and it was awesome.

“Almost blue/Almost doing things we used to do/There’s a boy here and he’s almost you/Almost all the things that your eyes once promised/I see in his too/Now your eyes are red from crying/Almost blue/Flirting with this disaster became me/It named me as the fool who only aimed to be/Almost blue/It’s almost touching it will almost do/There’s a part of me that’s always true…always/Not all good things come to an end now it is only a chosen few/I’ve seen such an unhappy couple/Almost me/Almost you/Almost blue” -Almost Blue, sung by Diana Krall, written by her husband, Elvis Costello

  1. Don’t you just love the crap you have to do when you work for a non-profit? At least it was a nice day. The sea of blue scares me – I try to stay far away.

  2. That’s super impressive for a non-profit to make in a day!

And becoming a football fan wouldn’t be such a bad thing ;)

  3. Go hawk! 30,000 is awesome!

  4. Wait until November. You won’t be as hot then.

  5. File this under “things they don’t teach you in college”

  6. $30k?! Wow, thats awesome!

  8. diane- and does it turn you on? jk. ;)

scotty- i know! half of that is a match donation from a foundation but still, that’s a lot of dough!

    sandra- that’s for sure.

whit- i don’t want it to be november for at least 2 more months. ;)

    jen- i know, huh?! yay!

tc- i am still on the fence about the football fanage. contemplating it.

kim- it was pretty overwhelming, that sea of blue, but infectious too. such energy! such unflinching loyalty to a team!

josie- yes, my hawtness brings in the big bucks. heh. getting a compliment from the non-complimenter and THEN coming into work the next day to mad props is pretty great.

  20. bre- thanks!

wayne- i’d say they were 25lbs? weighed a bit more than my nephew when he falls asleep in my arms…and i’m not running through a stadium with him. thank goodness!

appletree- great taste in tunes you have!

heather- seeing a game live is pretty cool, i’ll admit that. :)

  21. That sounds like fun, even if it was work. And isn’t it always nice to hear positive feedback like that? I know it always makes my week.

  22. Amazing! … what you did, but yeah, YOU too. ;)

  23. ok, so I do not know football. AT ALL. but it must be something spectacular because my stepbrother and stepfather are season ticket holders to the Seahawks and drive down there for every single game all the way from Vancouver, BC!

  24. I think for the next home game, we shall require a video montage of your day :)

Good job. Sounds like it was a very productive day.

I like the Seahawks. They have one of our Alabama boys at running back :)

  25. [...] the record? I had a fantastic time at the game. Me! A football naysayer. But it was so much different being in the stands with the die hard fans, their energy is SO [...]
