Comment by Alison— July 8, 2010 #
Oh, and I love it because it makes me feel good, it makes me chair dance, and Robert Schneider is a cute teddy bear.
Comment by Alison— July 8, 2010 #
LCD Soundsystem’s latest album, This Is Happening is fantastic. I can’t stop listening to it.
Comment by Holmes— July 8, 2010 #
This reminds me I’ve made you cds I need to mail.
Downhere and Anberlin are two that are always in rotation. I never get tired of them.
Currently LOVING the songs Avalanche by Manafest and Trinity by Paper Tongues. And also Hark the Herons.
If you’re looking for something for yourself, Hark The Herons is probably the only one I’ve listed that you would like.
Comment by Carrisa— July 8, 2010 #
“Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + the Machine
Comment by Liz @ Dogs & Wine— July 8, 2010 #
I’ve been rediscovering “So Red The Rose” by the Duran Duran splinter group “Arcadia”… it’s the best album Duran Duran never made!
Comment by Dave2— July 8, 2010 #

The Heartless Bastards and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band!
Comment by Jill— July 8, 2010 #
My favorite song at the moment is lovely by Sara Haze. I’m also liking Ingrid Michaelson, especially Be Ok. I also recently discovered Brooke Frasier and Erin McCarley. Eva Cassidy is always good.
Comment by Julianne— July 8, 2010 #
Lately, I’ve been listening to the new Danko Jones album, “Below The Belt”… straight up rock and roll!
Comment by Michael— July 8, 2010 #
I’m usually no good at this. But, I will say, I absolutely love Trombone Shorty’s new(ish?) CD. Sweets and I really got into the HBO show, Treme, all about New Orleans … and Trombone Shorty is one of the featured artists. His stuff is really great!
Comment by Nilsa @ SoMi Speaks— July 8, 2010 #
So interesting that you ask this because just yesterday when I was driving and listening to Ashley Arrison’s Hearts On Parade I was thinking Sizzle needs to download this. I think she would love it. I even considered gifting it to you. SWEAR TO GOD!
Comment by Bob Merrick— July 8, 2010 #
I hit a retro funk the other night and I’ve been spinning The Cure like a maniac. All I know is that Friday I’m in Love is one of the greatest songs ever. And Pictures of You? Need I say more?
Comment by Melissa— July 8, 2010 #

Comment by ostrich— July 8, 2010 #
And I am with Melissa on the Cure. When in doubt I go through their catalog in chronological order.
Comment by ostrich— July 8, 2010 #
My two go-to CD’s – neither of them new – are Scissor Sisters’ “Ta-Dah” and The Jayhawks “Tomorrow the Green Grass”.
Comment by wordnerd— July 8, 2010 #
Lately I am obsessed with Muse and Joshua Radin. Polar opposites, but fit my upbeat and melancholy moods. ;)
Comment by Jo— July 8, 2010 #
Your commenters make me feel like a music moron :) I’m excited to check out all of these new-to-me artists. I always go to Train when I’m in a music funk. I love all of their albums (except Pat’s solo album). I’m actually off to see them at Maryhill Winery this weekend, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Comment by Tia— July 8, 2010 #
Can’t get enough of…
Metric
We Were Promised Jetpacks (the name alone!!)
LCD Soundsystem
Temper Trap
Comment by LVGurl— July 8, 2010 #
The debut album by Sarah Jarosz – she’s just a kid, but wow is she good. None of that manufactured pop sensation stuff, either. She’s the real thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3PYS8rV2to
Also the new Punch Brothers album “Antifogmatic.” Despite across-the-board rave reviews from the “experts,” some people find it a little less accessible. It’s not quite a concept album, but there’s more to the songs than a happy rhyming format.
Comment by Karen— July 8, 2010 #
I am old school – my go-to artist is Pearl Jam. They never fail to lighten up my mood.
Comment by san— July 8, 2010 #
I know I’ve already sent the name Matt Andersen your way — still at the top of my Ipod playlist. If you like him, check out Irish Mythen…she’s a powerhouse!
Comment by Amber— July 8, 2010 #
I’ve been listening to a lot of U2 lately. Not sure why. I’m also loving Maroon 5. And, I love me some local music – the Preons.
Comment by Sarah— July 8, 2010 #
Someone already proposed LCD Soundsystem, but I have another song to suggest: “Us vs. Them” – I can’t get enough of this song! Almost everything I’ve heard from this band is superb.
Also…Swing/big band music always puts some spring into my step.

Comment by Tracy Lynn— July 8, 2010 #
I just downloaded Brandi Carlile’s latest CD from Amazon for $5, so that is what I’ve been listening to a lot. Love her.
I’m also loving Yeasayer.
I like to go to Amazon at the beginning of each month b/c they have 100 albums for $5. That’s usual how I determine what I’m listening to for the next four weeks. :)
Comment by terrell— July 8, 2010 #
Mumford and Sons. Bit pretentious, but you have to love a rock band with a banjo.
Comment by Kerry— July 8, 2010 #

Anything by Gaslight Anthem.
Airborne Toxic Machine
I love the song Animal by the Neon Trees or Laredo by Band of Horses.
Comment by Jen— July 8, 2010 #
Kenny G and Michael Bolton.
Just kidding. The Temper Trap’s new album is pretty cool and if you’re a U2 fan, I recently discovered a cool, techno-y cover of their songs by Electron Love Theory.
Comment by Mel Heth— July 8, 2010 #
Expo 86 by Wolf Parade and 5 Ghosts by Stars are 2 excellent new albums by awesome Canadian bands.
Comment by hillary— July 8, 2010 #
You have lots of good suggestions here, so I’ll just tell you what’s in my head this very moment instead: Foolish Beat by Debbie Gibson.
You’re welcome.
Comment by The Modern Gal— July 8, 2010 #
Right now? No thinking? Ok, will have to turn to my trusty last.fm to see what the last seven days of listening have brought.
Band? :wumpscut: (which I’d avoid if German electronic industrial isn’t your thang).
Song? The Smashing Pumpkins – Appels & Oranjes
Comment by Kevin Spencer— July 8, 2010 #
Placebo – Running Up That Hill
Comment by Poppy Q— July 8, 2010 #
I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I’m in love with Usher’s “OMG” right now.
Sorry, I’ll see myself out…
Comment by Kendall— July 8, 2010 #
Also, in my CD player in my car right now is Fatboy Slim’s “You’ve Come A Long Way Baby” and before that was A3′s “Exile on Coldharbour Lane.”
Does this redeem me at all…?
Comment by Kendall— July 8, 2010 #
Anything by Florence + the Machine. I’m loving her right now!
Comment by Megan— July 8, 2010 #
Without thinking:
I Am Not A Robot – Marina and the Diamonds
Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful – Seabird
Element of Freedom album – Alicia Keys
And a bunch of Boyce Avenue, some random cover band I found on Youtube. But I’m a sucker for acoustic-ish guys and guitars.
Comment by inkpuddle— July 8, 2010 #
Cable TV by Fol Chen is an awesome pick-me-up music song.
Comment by tillie— July 8, 2010 #
Joseph Arthur: Even tho
Comment by Nina— July 8, 2010 #
Embarrassingly enough, Down with the sickness by Disturbed. Silas and I rock our faces off to it and he does a wicked monkey scream.
On a more normal note, the new Ben Harper is solid even though I prefer him with the Innocent Criminals as opposed to the relentless seven. And for lazing about relaxing, the new Norah Jones is perfect. She covers Johnny Cash’s Cry Cry Cry on it, and quite well.
Oh! and the new Lily Allen has a song called Fuck you very much. Loves it.
Leaving now, before you start judging my ipod.
Comment by Shania— July 8, 2010 #
Beck’s album Guero
Lost at Sea by Fiery Furnances
Digital Love by Daft Punk
Life on a Chain by Pete Yorn
Bang Bang by K’naan
So Pure by Alanis Morisette
Please to not judge me!
Comment by Marie— July 8, 2010 #
Delurking to share my two most favorite albums lately.
Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows: a Tribute to John Prine

I know the Avett Brothers are not new but I just discovered them and I AM IN LOVE!
Also I have loved John Prine since I was literally two years old so to hear his music done by a lot of musicians I love makes me happy :)

Without overthinking, these days I dig this whole album:
The Orange Mountain Music Philip Glass Sampler Vol.I
which is FREE:
Also, “Normal” by Ximena SariƱana. A lyric or 2 in English but mostly Spanish. Just like how it sounds.
Comment by claire— July 8, 2010 #
I’m in love with Muse right now…
Comment by Angella— July 8, 2010 #

“Half of My Heart”, by John Mayer and Taylor Swift. That song is so “me”, it’s eerie. Another favorite is “Breakeven”, by The Script. Seems almost haunting.:-/ Who was in my head? Hmm??
Check out the new ECLIPSE cd, for some good newer hipster stuff. Also, I heard a cool ROONEY song on MTV today, and I know a CA girl like you must know ‘em.
Comment by Bully— July 9, 2010 #
“Watch Her Move” – Peter Wolf. “Oh My” – Gin Wigmore. “Lover Lover” – Jerrod Niemann
Comment by raven-smiles— July 9, 2010 #
I will have to browse through comments here because I am in the same kind of funk. I am going to list mine and then go back and read so my choices aren’t influenced.
Before you read this, remember I have an almost teenage daughter so my taste right now runs a little young:
Jason Derulo, Kesha (but I am getting sick of both now)
Sexy Chick by David Guetta (although it gives my one daughter a headache)
This Ain’t a Love Song by Scouting For Girls (even though the word ain’t is normally one of the words that I HATE because it isn’t a word I just love the song)
Animals by Neon Trees
So many more but I am embarrassed enough about this short list of my “teen music” so I will stop now.
Comment by radioactive tori— July 9, 2010 #
Anything by Heather Combs
Comment by Lisa O— July 9, 2010 #
Holy shit, this brings out the comments! I’m excited to go through these suggestions and troll for new tunes. And I’d add mine, but I think I’ll do a whole post with my latest faves. Good idea :)
Comment by LongStoryLonger— July 9, 2010 #
P.S. JeniAngel’s house is apparently a gay disco!
Comment by LongStoryLonger— July 9, 2010 #
Wow. So much stuff. Nothing really new. I just Gord Downie’s new one The Grand Bounce but haven’t listened to it yet.
Wintersleep’s Dead Letter and the Infinite Yes (but all of Welcome to the Night Sky is wonderful.)
Tragically Hip (I’ve developed a thing for The Hip this week), We are All the Same — which I missed back in 2009 when it came out. Very much love the Depression Suite. So it’s been a lot of Hip. And a lot of Gord Downie.
Ummm.. I think I’ve given you these before.
Comment by Nat— July 10, 2010 #
Ok, I’m back with a serious suggestion. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I went to a show of theirs last night, and they were fabulous.
